Focusing the mind on a particular object, thought or activity helps the mind calm down

Meditation is the practice of turning one's attention to a single point of reference. It can involve focusing on the breath, on bodily sensations, or on a word or phrase, known as a mantra.
Before I knew that meditation existed I felt a warning that I had to
find a way to get balanced from all that was constantly overwhelming me

It started when I moved to a new country, had to learn new customs, language and try to fit in. In particular, it was the home family environment in to marriage which was so new and out of my comfort zone

In part, I was surrounded by people who were experiencing constant unsettling events, fighting, depressed and understandably quite self centered

I had started my adult life being codependent to total strangers with different ideas and mindset, which my new family who were very welcoming also tried their best to be my anchor and rock

I needed time to adapt and digest everything and I learnt that I wasn't processing and working through things due to being naive and from growing up in a completely different environment

I basically felt I was fending for myself; trying to make sure I didn't step on anyone's toes and just get on with things. Avoid rocking the boat; live and let live, that was what my new world was about...I let myself get lost to it

Since my warning signs were experienced mostly through body sensations I had to start figuring out how to heal myself from this uncomfortable and unhealthy situation that would have serious repercussions if not taken into consideration....a time bomb that needed to be defused very fast

Once I started learning to observe my thoughts and feelings to better understand them I didn't realize that I was actually practicing mindfulness and that it started to change my whole world for the better

I concentrated on achieving a mentally clear, emotionally calm and stable state of mind. First through breathing and then with using a 'word' that I would pop up whenever I needed to get my mind to change the pattern of thought

Meditation isn’t about becoming a different person, a new person, or even a better person. It’s about training in awareness and getting a healthy sense of perspective

Gradually I realized that I was suffering emotionally about events that were traumatic to me, it was time to learn to accept them, to not blame and shame.....that our world is comprehensible if we try to understand our sensitivity to what triggers us in situations that may be toxic for us

Eventually and with much effort on my part, I started to regain myself back, as I grew on my attitude, my relationships, efforts to accept the things I can control and reject what I cannot

Only then did I finally feel more confident in offering something of my unique self to the world and know that everyone is unique too

Our attitude and behavior has a lot to do with what's inside of us
if you have worked on yourself you will be able to tackle a lot of situations, good or bad.

Think of it as your filling cabinet, why fill it up with junk?
You are in charge of your mind, get rid of clutter and feed it good stuff

Quote for us:

The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.
